Welding truck fire: 609 Saw Mill River Road

At 1315 hours, a full assignment was dispatched to 609 Saw Mill River Road for the report of a vehicle and structure fire.

Responding units found a fully involved welding truck, with a gasoline generator and several oxygen tanks in the rear, adjacent to the structure.

Shortly after the arrival of Chief Diaz first due, one of the tanks exploded, causing an extremely loud explosion, which was heard miles away.

The explosion intensified the fire and caused live power lines to fall on the truck.

Con Ed responded quickly, de-energizing the power lines and the fire was extinguished with one 2 inch Class A foam line.

Fairview Engine and Irvington Ladder relocated to our quarters for station coverage.

As Chief Montagna, FDNY, likes to say, “No Routine Responses.”
