Structure fire at 9 Chester Avenue

At 0550 hours, a full assignment was dispatched to a Con Ed gas alarm at 9 Chester Avenue, with Con Ed gas enroute.  At 0556 hours, the dispatch was upgraded to a working structure fire.

Responding units found heavy smoke pushing out of the basement and first floor.  Two lines were stretched and placed into operation: One line into the basement through the garage and one line into the first floor through the front door.

Access to most of the fire was difficult, as it was inside of wall and ceiling voids, which required much opening up.

The fire was finally placed under control after about 2 hours of intensive operations in extremely cold (18 degree) weather.

The first due units were assisted on scene by Fairview FD (E175), Hartsdale FD (E170), Irvington FD (L36), Valhalla FD (R9, FAST) and Millwood FD (R36, Cascade).  Station coverage relocates were:  Tarrytown FD (E80) and Ardsley FD (L50).

Our thanks to all the mutual aid companies for their assistance!!!
