The Elmsford Fire Department is 100% volunteer, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We train continually, learning the latest skills in firefighting and emergency medical treatment, providing the highest quality Fire and EMS service to the Village of Elmsford and our Fire Protection Districts. Located 20 minutes north of New York City, the Elmsford Fire Department is comprised of two companies : Our ladder company : Elmsford Fire Company #1 and Our engine company : Live Oak Engine Company #1.

Structure fire at 9 Haven Street

A full assignment was dispatched at 0509 hours to a possible structure fire at 9 Haven St.

Chief Hoke arrived on the scene and immediately requested a "working fire/mutual aid assignment" from 60-Control.

The fire was located in a first floor luncheonette of a two-story commercial structure approximately 100 feet by 100 feet, at the above address.

E-237 was first due forcing entry and advancing  a 2 inch Class A foam line into the store, quickly knocking down the main body of fire.  

L-55  was second due forcing entry into the second floor, conducting a primary search, finding no occupants and no fire extension.

Mutual aid units assisting on the scene:  Battalion 11, Valhalla FD Rescue 9 (FAST Unit), Fairview FD E-174 and Irvington FD L-36.

Other units on the scene:  Greenburgh Cascade 446, Greenburgh PD Paramedic, Con Edison Gas and Electric, County Cause and Origin.

Elmsford Mayor Williams, Elmsford PD, Elmsford Fire Inspector.

Relocated to our quarters:  Hartsdale FD E-170 and Ardsley FD L-50.

All units were back in service by 0830 hours.

Mutual aid to Tarrytown Fire Department

Ladder 55 FAST team and Ambulance 58B-2 were dispatched by 60-Control to assist Tarrytown Fire Department at the scene of a Haz Mat incident at 540 White Plains Road, Tarrytown.

Both units remained on the scene until the incident was brought under control, returning to quarters at 1320 hours.

Always a pleasure to work with our Tarrytown FD friends!!


 
   
   
Water Rescue Drill with Irvington Fire Department

Members of the Elmsford Fire Dept Water Rescue Team drilled with the Irvington FD at the Irvington Reservoir.

Ductwork fire at Syms Dept Store

A full assignment was dispatched to Syms Dept Store, 299 East Main St, for a possible fire in the ductwork.

Arriving units found a working fire in the ductwork, with a heavy smoke condition, in the basement of the store.

A line was quickly stretched, knocking down the main body of fire.  Extensive overhaul continued checking for extension in the ductwork.

The smoke condition was cleared with Positive Pressure Ventilation.

A mutual aid consisted of the following:

Battalion 14 to the scene.

Fairview FD Engine 174, Irvington FD Ladder 36,  Valhalla FD Rescue 9 (FAST Unit) to the scene.

Hawthorne FD Ambulance and Greenburgh PD Paramedic to the scene.

Hartsdale Engine 170 relocated to our quarters.

Greenburgh Cascade 446, County Cause & Origin, Con Edison Gas & Electric to the scene.

Mutual aid to Ardsley Fire Department

Engine 237 and Ladder 55 were dispatched by 60-Control, on mutual aid to Rite-Aid, 871 Saw Mill River Road, to assist Ardsley FD with a structure fire.

Engine 237 was assigned to the rear of the building, stretching a 2 1/2 line to the rear of the Rite-Aid store, operating there until the fire was brought under control.

Ladder 55 was the FAST Unit.


 
   
   
RIT Personal Safety System Training

This past Saturday and Sunday, the Training Division of the Elmsford Fire Department certified 33 Interior Firefighters in the use of the RIT Personal Escape System.

Our thanks to all who participated in this intensive training program, which was difficult due to the extreme heat and humidity.

The Elmsford Fire Department now has 42 Interior Firefighters fully equipped and trained with this State mandated equipment.

A special thanks to Matt, Steve and Al from AAA Emergency Supply Company for their assistance with this program.


 
Dumpster fire w/slight extension to a structure

A full assignment was dispatched to the rear of Hardwood Flooring, South Central Avenue, for a reported brush fire.

Arriving units found a working dumpster fire with extension to the rear of the structure.

The fire was quickly extinguished with one Class A foam line from Engine 237, while Tower Ladder 21 checked for extension to the roof and vented the structure with a Positive Pressure Fan.


 
   
   
Mutual aid to White Plains Fire Department
Wednesday, July 7, 2010

At 1652 hours Engine 237 was dispatched by 60-Control to relocate to White Plains Fire Department Headquarters on Mamaroneck Ave due to a mutliple alarm fire on Post Road, that city.

Engine 237 relocated and responded to three alarms:  One an actual fire on Main St, and the others, automatic alarms due to the volume of smoke in the business area.

Ambulance 58B-1 was later dispatched by 60-Control to respond to the scene of the fire for EMS standby.

All units were back in service by 2130 hours.


 
   
   
Village of Mamaroneck Fire Dept Parade
Wednesday, June 30, 2010

The Elmsford Fire Department participated in the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department Parade, with the following trophy results:

Ladder 55 won 2nd best Combination Aerial.

Our Juniors won 3rd best Juniors.

Our band:  The Pipes & Drums of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester won best Bagpipe Band.


Congratulations to all for a job well done!!!
